About Tutus en Tournant
Brenda Smith, Dressmaker and Costumer, has over 40 years of sewing experience. She loves working with beautiful fabrics and puts love into every stitch. She has a passion for making Classical ballet tutus. She was a volunteer costume mistress for a pre-professional dance company for many years and worked closely with the dancers to ensure costumes fit perfectly. Brenda had an opportunity to take a tutu construction class with a designer from Pacific Northwest Ballet. She also enjoys making historic ball gown replications, party dresses, and other Nutcracker ballet costumes.
Special awards include first prize in Tutu.com’s national Tutu contest in 2010, with one of her Black Swan tutus. She was also a winner of Threads Magazine 2014 Fancy Fabric Challenge, with a recent Sugar Plum Tutu that she created.
In recent years, Brenda has expanded her repertoire to include professional alterations and creation of women’s bridal wear.
Nicole Conley, designer, has many years of ballet training and understands the needs and wants of dancers and how their costumes should fit and feel. She has a BA in Apparel design and loves to design tutus and special occasion dresses.
